What does “ethisch” mean?
Ethical promises a morally responsible product or company but leaves open against which criteria and standards this assessment is measured. Under the EmpCo directive such a general claim is permissible only with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence documenting the underlying benchmarks. Without a comprehensible basis the term is considered misleading, because it remains indeterminate and can be interpreted arbitrarily.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
