What does “klimaverträglich” mean?
The claim gives the impression that an offering is compatible with protecting the climate or causes it no relevant harm. As a general environmental claim the EmpCo Directive requires concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence for the full advertised effect. Where this is missing or the reference point stays unclear, the advertising is regularly misleading.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
