What does “nachhaltig produziert” mean?
The term claims overall sustainable manufacturing without naming the environmental aspects concerned. As a general environmental claim it is only permitted under the EmpCo Directive with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence. Without verifiable criteria and data on the production the advertising is classified as misleading.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
