What does “ökologisch” mean?
Ecological signals general environmental soundness in advertising without disclosing the specific reference point or scope of the claimed performance. The EmpCo Directive only allows such a sweeping environmental claim where a recognised, excellent environmental performance is supported by robust, publicly accessible evidence; without that proof the claim is generally misleading.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
