What does “umweltbewusst” mean?
The word claims consistently environmentally responsible behaviour or a product, often without a concrete reference. Such general environmental claims are only permitted under the EmpCo Directive with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence. If it stays open what the awareness refers to and how it is substantiated, misleading advertising is likely.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
