Generic environmental claim

chemiefrei

Requires proof

General environmental statements that are only permitted with recognized proof.

What does “chemiefrei” mean?

The claim asserts that a product is free of chemicals, which is barely tenable since all substances are chemical in nature. As a free-from claim it is only permissible with a concrete, verifiable reference and is especially misleading where it merely means the absence of substances that are prohibited or untypical anyway. Without specification the term feigns an advantage.

Why this term is risky

Free-of claims are misleading where the named substance is not present in comparable products anyway or is already legally banned – this suggests an advantage that every product in the category shares. Such claims remain permissible only where the absence is genuinely relevant and can be substantiated.
