Generic environmental claim

plastikfrei

Requires proof

General environmental statements that are only permitted with recognized proof.

What does “plastikfrei” mean?

Plastic-free asserts that a product or its packaging contains no plastic at all, which consumers often read as an absolute statement. Under the EmpCo Directive the term is only permissible with concrete, verifiable and publicly accessible evidence; where plastic components remain, for example in coatings or adhesives, the claim quickly becomes misleading.

Why this term is risky

Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
