What does “Sekundärrohstoff” mean?
The term highlights the use of recovered rather than virgin raw materials and thereby promises a lower environmental burden. As a general environmental claim it is only permitted under the EmpCo Directive with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence, for example on the actual share in the product. Without a substantiated secondary share and a clear reference misleading advertising is likely.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
