Generic environmental claim

tierversuchsfrei

Requires proof

General environmental statements that are only permitted with recognized proof.

What does “tierversuchsfrei” mean?

The claim advertises that no animal testing was carried out for a product. It is only permissible with concrete, recognised evidence and becomes especially misleading where animal testing is already legally prohibited for the relevant product group. In that case the notice presents a matter of course as a special benefit.

Why this term is risky

Free-of claims are misleading where the named substance is not present in comparable products anyway or is already legally banned – this suggests an advantage that every product in the category shares. Such claims remain permissible only where the absence is genuinely relevant and can be substantiated.
