What does “CO2-arm” mean?
The term promises low CO2 emissions, often without stating the comparison product or the life-cycle stages included. As a general environmental claim it is only permitted under the EmpCo Directive with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence. Without a transparent calculation and a clear reference point the advertising is misleading.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
