What does “nachhaltig” mean?
Sustainable is one of the most widespread environmental buzzwords, promising durably environmentally and socially sound conduct without specifying the reference. As a general environmental claim, the term is permissible under the EmpCo directive only with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence substantiating the asserted performance. Without such proof it is considered misleading, because it remains indeterminate and raises far-reaching, unverified expectations.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
