Generic environmental claim
öko
Requiere pruebaAfirmaciones medioambientales generales que solo se admiten con prueba reconocida.
What does “öko” mean?
The shorthand eco creates the impression of broad ecological superiority while remaining vague and unspecific in substance. Under the EmpCo Directive this kind of general environmental claim is only permissible when the asserted environmental performance is backed by concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence; otherwise it is treated as misleading.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
Legal basis
Anhang I Nr. 4a UGP-RL i.d.F. EmpCo (EU) 2024/825 / § 5 UWG
The stated legal basis is an assessment, not a conclusively reviewed legal opinion and not individual legal advice.
