What does “ESG-konform” mean?
The claim suggests that an offering meets comprehensive environmental, social and governance criteria. As a general claim it is only permitted under the EmpCo Directive with concrete, recognised and publicly accessible evidence that discloses the underlying criteria and their verification. Without a traceable standard and proof misleading advertising is likely.
Why this term is risky
Blanket, unspecific environmental claims without concrete, verifiable evidence are considered misleading where no recognised outstanding environmental performance is demonstrated. They remain permissible only with concrete, publicly accessible proof – such as a recognised certification.
